ACADEMIC - The academic course is structured as follows:-
(a) One year General Education
(b) Three years specialized training in one of the following areas:-
(i) Agricultural Science
(ii) Engineering
(iii) Home Economics
(iv) Business Education
2. HOMEWORK AND PRIVATE STUDIES
Not all teachers and parents are sure about how much time is really needed for homework. Students claim that they did not get any homework. It is best to help students to get into the habit of putting aside a certain amount of time daily for private studies. Begin to provide each student with a homework note-book in which he/she must list all homework given. This must be taken to school daily for recording of homework assignment.
3. EXAMINATION AND REPORTS
Reports will be issued twice per year - a half yearly report and an annual report. Parents should discuss the report with students. If reports are unsatisfactory or of a special interest, parents should contact his/her form teacher about his/her class work progress in school.
Students must understand that failure to study and to do the assignments of a class will be considered as a step towards being asked to leave. Assignments must be done and home studies will be a real part of school work.
Parents may be asked to withdraw students who fight at school.
Parents may be asked to withdraw students who have been suspended three times while at school.
4. RULE 1. School hours are from 7:50 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The first bell will be rung at 7:50 a.m. - Registration will begin in form rooms and uniforms checked.2. At 8:00 a. m. all students will assemble for devotion under the guidance of the prefects.3. All students must avoid being late. Duty prefects will stand at the road junction each morning between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Any student coming after 8:15 a.m. must report immediately to his/her form teacher.
5. ATTENDANCE
This is compulsory. Absence from school MUST BE EXPLAINED BY A WRITTEN EXCUSE BY PARENT STATING REASON. ANY PROLONGED ABSENCE WILL NECESSITATE A VISIT OF PARENTS AND IF DUE TO ILLNESS, A DOCTOR'S CERTIFICATE MUST BE PLACED ON THE STUDENT'S FILE. STUDENTS RETURNING TO CLASS WITHOUT A WRITTEN EXCUSE WILL BE SENT HOME UNTIL THE EXCUSE IS RECEIVED.
6. Correct school uniform MUST be worn by all students. Boys will wear short sleeved khaki shirts and trousers, the specified pair of epaulette, black shoes and black or navy blue socks. Girls will wear navy blue tunic and white short sleeved blouse, flat heeled black shoes navy blue or black socks NO OVERCOAT MUST BE WORN WITH UNIFORM. NO "UPPERS" WILL BE ALLOWED FOR BOTH MALE AND FEMALE STUDENTS.7. Students must be in complete uniform when coming to or going home from school.
8. Students in woodwork, metalwork and Agricultural Department MUST WEAR OVERALLS, WHITE CAPS AND WHITE APRONS.
9. Students should not fight at school. No jewellry except a watch must be worn with the school uniforms. No synthetic hair must be worn. No lipstick or nail polish must be worn. Nails must be kept short at all times.
10. LEAVING THE SCHOOL COMPOUND:
Once the student has arrived at school at 7:50 a.m. he/she will not be permitted to leave the school compound again until 2:30 p.m. Permission to leave in cases of emergency must be had from the Principal's office. Parent, Guardian or Hostess must request permission in writing.
11. CLASSROOMS, BUILDING AND SCHOOL PROPERTY:
The classroom and building must be maintained in a neat and proper manner at all times. No form of playing is allowed at any time in the classrooms. No student may remove furniture from a classroom without the permission of a teacher and in that case the furniture must be returned to the classroom immediately after use. Every effort must be made to keep the school compound clean and tidy. Waste material must be placed in proper receptacles.
PERSONAL PROPERTY:
Each student is totally responsible for his/her personal belongings.
12. No student must go to the school's doctor or dentist unless first reporting to the form teacher on duty. The student should get a Medical form from the nurse's office before leaving. Students going to the school's doctor outside of school's hours do so at their parents'/guardians' expense unless sent by the school.
13. IMMEDIATELY after the last class period of the day the classrooms should be left tidy.
14. Students who are not engaged in any extra-curricular activities must leave the school compound by 3:10 p.m.
15. THE LABORATORIES, WORKSHOPS, SEWING ROOM AND COOKERY ROOMS ARE OUT OF BOUNDS TO ALL STUDENTS NOT ATTENDING CLASSES IN THEM. THE STAFFROOMS ARE ALSO OUT OF BOUNDS TO STUDENTS.
16. No student may leave a class between 8:20 a.m. and 10:05 a.m., 10:25 a.m. and 11:35 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with out first obtaining permission from the teacher of the class.
17. The reservoir and the river are OUT OF BOUNDS TO STUDENTS.
18. Students must always walk on the RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD.
19. Students must not interfere with the fruits or any produce on the farm.
20. Students in uniform should keep away from public places unless they are sent by parents.
21. MEETING:
No meeting or assemblies outside of those pertaining to the school premises are allowed without the permission of the Principal. Meetings and functions involving persons other than staff and students must first have the approval of the Principal.
22. VISITORS TO STUDENTS
Students are not allowed to receive visitors from outside the school during school hours. In cases of emergency parents or friends wishing to see a student must go to the office and report the matter. The student will then be called to the office and the message delivered.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOEVER MUST A VISITOR ENTER A CLASSROOM OR ANY OTHER SCHOOL BUILDING, EXCEPT THE OFFICE WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF THE PRINCIPAL OR VICE PRINCIPAL OR TEACHER.
NOTE: It shall be regarded as a very serious breach of school discipline if any of these rules are at any time broken.
Guidelines from the Ministry of Education
1. Students are not allowed to take cutting implement to school. They are prohibited from using knives, sticks, stones, broken bottles, gun or any other cutting implement or dangerous weapon. They should not use them for the purpose of injuring other students, teachers or any other member of the school community.
2. The possession or use of any form of dangerous or prohibitive drugs is an offence. Students are not allowed to use, sell or purchase drugs on the school compound or to indoctrinate any one in their use.
3. The formation of groups for the purpose of disrupting school routine is an offence.
4. Students are expected to communicate with their teachers in standard English and they should not use indecent language to anyone on the compound.
5. Ownership of property is obtained by hard work. Students should respect the property of others and on no account should a student deprive another of what is rightfully his/her (i.e. STEALING IS AN OFFENCE).
6. Every student is guaranteed freedom of worship, provided the parent approves. In respect of students under 18 years of age, no student should seek to impose his religious views on others. A student maybe excused from participating in religious activities which are against his/her religious denominational belief, provided that his parents make application in writing to the Principal , however all students are required to participate in the routine assembly and devotional function.
7. All students (in their dress and person should conform to proper standards of hygiene which requires each student to have his/her hair well groomed).
8. All students are required to dress in conformity with the dress prescribed by the particular school authority.
9. Students should be properly groomed which requires that the apparel or dress of each student should be tidy and conform to conventional standards of neatness.
10. Standards of conduct should conform to generally accepted notions of decency, morality sobriety, orderliness, respect, courtesy, discipline and other modes of behaviour that serve to promote the advancement of the educational system.
11. School buildings are valuable property and should be preserved.
12. Students should not write on walls or deface them in any way. Slogans should not be written thereon.
13. Students will be required to make restitution to the school Board for any damage willfully done to school property.
